Revisit Ulu Geroh, Gopeng

This morning I drove to Gopeng to check the Rajah Brooke’s Birdwings. I counted about 200 of them absorb mineralized water containing the sodium and potassium ions necessary to activate adult behaviour. The butterflies drink and squirt the excess water from the abdomen in a small jets or droplets. Please see attached two images.

As I was walking out from the site I scanned around for the Giant Stick Insect. There I found a few of them and a pair was mating. Attaching 4 images with different angle showing the male bites the neck on his partner. What puzzles me is what that white ‘ball’ is? Could it be the egg has been laid? Hope to get comments from you.

Kind regards,

P.S. All images were taken this morning by digiscope.
